Errant NS trainees to perform community service chores!

2010/10/14

IPOH: Errant National Service (PLKN) trainees will be punished with community service starting next year. Welfare Services Department community service division director Zaimi Abdul Rali said the punishment would be carried out after a court order was issued.

"More than 6,733 trainees called up have skipped the programme since 2007 and the number is expected to increase annually."

Zaimi said trainees hauled up would be subjected to not more 240 hours community service comprising chores undertaken by local authorities.

"National Service Training Department (JLKN) statistics show that 716 trainees from Perak have failed to join training programmes. This makes Perak the fourth highest state nationwide," he added.

Community service is meant for offenders aged 18-21 years who committed minor offences for the first time. - BERNAMA
